French striker Djibril Cisse is on the verge of completing a move to Sunderland after arriving in the north-west of England to undergo a medical examination.
Sunderland have agreed to take the former Liverpool striker on a season-long loan from Marseille, with a view to a permanent transfer.
“They might be foreign but it's important to bring in players who know the Premier League,” said Sunderland manager Roy Keane.
“We didn't use the loan deal too much last year but this time we have been looking at that.”
