Manchester United have secured the signing of veteran striker Henrik Larsson on a three-month loan deal, starting in January.
The 35-year-old former Swedish international will leave current club Helsingborg on January 1 and will return on March 12 in time for the Swedish season.
Larsson said: “United have been after me before, after the first or second season with Celtic.
“It feels good to come and play for such a big club. I may not start every match, but it feels like a fun thing.
“We will see how much playing time there will be. Am I a back-up? Yes, at the beginning.”
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer injured and Alan Smith still some way from full fitness, Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha are United’s only recognised strikers.
Helsingborg chairman Sten-Inge Fredrin confirmed the deal, saying: “It’s incredibly honouring, especially for Henrik and for HIF (Helsingborgs IF) as a football club to have a star that a super club like Manchester tries to bring over to solve a problem.
“We are very pleased with the deal but we won’t go into numbers,” Fredrin said.
After two years at Barcelona, Larsson joined hometown club Helsingborg last summer and helped them to a fourth-placed league finish and the Swedish Cup in his first season.
