Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Vitoria de Guimaraes striker Bebe, for reported fee of £7.4 million.
Bebe, whose full name is Tiago Manuel Dias Correia, was recommended to United by Sir Alex Ferguson’s former assistant Carlos Queiroz, now manager of the Portugal national team.
The player leaves Guimaraes only five weeks after he joined the club from Estrela da Amadora in the Portuguese third division.
The Guardian reports that Bebe was raised in an orphanage after spending part of his childhood on the streets and represented Portugal in the homeless World Cup.
The 6’2″ forward becomes United’s third major signing of the summer, joining Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez in moving to Old Trafford.
