Italy have booked their place in the Euro 2020 final after edging past Spain on penalties at Wembley. The Azzurri beat Spain 4-2 in the shootout after 120 minutes of enthralling action in the capital.
Italy’s Federico Chiesa opened the scoring midway through the second-half with a delightful curled finish. However, it wasn’t enough to send his side through in normal time. Soon after coming on as a substitute, Alvaro Morata equalised for Spain to send the game into extra-time.
Although Spain pushed for a winner in extra-time, they weren’t able to find a way past Italy’s backline led so brilliantly by Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci. In this case, Roberto Mancini’s players looked happy enough to settle for a shootout, especially given Spain’s recent record from the spot. Alvaro Morata saw his crucial penalty saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma, before Jorginho sent Italy through to the final with a nonchalant finish.
