Manchester United are edging closer to signing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. Here’s your daily round-up of transfer gossip from World Soccer.
Manchester United edge closer to Raphael Varane
After signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United are wasting no time as they look to strengthen their squad further ahead of 2021-22. In fact, they are reportedly close to finalising a deal to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. According to Marca, the 28-year-old defender could cost the Red Devils around £42 million. However, given that he’s a world-class centre-back, that could be considered a bargain in the current market. Together with Harry Maguire, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would suddenly look a lot stronger in defence if they land Varane. For this reason, the Red Devils are starting to be considered as genuine contenders to challenge for the Premier League title in 2021-22.
Manchester City’s pursuit of Harry Kane and Jack Grealish
However, the Red Devils will have strong competition from neighbours Manchester City. According to the Sun, the Citizens hope to make progress in their pursuit of Harry Kane and Jack Grealish by the weekend. In this case, neither of those deals would be easy to complete, but Pep Guardiola will be keen to strengthen his squad further before the big kick-off. Signing a striker surely remains the priority after Sergio Aguero’s departure to join Barcelona.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to West Ham?
According to the Express, West Ham could move for Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Hammers will move for the 27-year-old if they fail to land Matheus Pereira from West Bromwich Albion.
