Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to release veteran striker Teddy Sheringham when his current deal runs out at the end of the season.
The decision was mutually agreed with the 37-year-old striker, who now becomes a free agent.
Sheringham, who played for Spurs from 1992-97, before a spell with Manchester United, returned to White Hart Lane for a in 2001.
Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle told the club’s website: “Teddy has performed a great service for us, not just on the field but by setting such a superb example for our younger players. “He has also just completed another marvellous season for the club and we wish him well in the future.”
Sheringham admitted recently that he intended to continue playing even if he was refused a new deal with Tottenham. The former England striker has been linked with several clubs, including Millwall. where he began his career as a 17-year-old in 1983.
