Werner Lorant has resigned as coach of Fenerbahce and been replaced by his assistant Oguz Cetin.
Lorant was under pressure following a string of poor results, notably the club’s recent elimination from the UEFA Cup at the hands of Panathinaikos. Matters came to a head with last weekend’s 3-0 defeat against Diyarbarkispor.
The club’s president, Aziz Yildirim confirmed the appointment of Cetin, a former midfield player at the team, as Lorant’s replacement.
“Our new coach Oguz Cetin has the freedom to choose his own assistant and we are ready accept any reinforcement ideas he might have,” vice-chairman Attila Kiyat said.
