Everton’s David Moyes has been voted manager of the year by his fellow Premier League bosses.
The award is in recognition of the 39-year-old impressive first full season in charge at Goodison Park. Moyes left Preston North End to take over at Everton when Walter Smith resigned in March last year.
He managed to steer the club away from the the relegation zone towards the end of last season and has guided the club to a seventh place finish this year – Everton’s highest finish since 1996.
Moyes pride at receiving the award was mixed with a sense of disappointment as he watched his side go down 2-1 to Manchester United in the final match of the season, to miss out on the final UEFA Cup place.
“I’m delighted and surprised to win the award,” he said.
“The disappointment we have suffered is immeasurable.
“Football is about taking opportunities when they come and we hada great opportunity this season.
“But when things die down, then hopefully we will realise what a good season it has been.”
Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson won an award as Premier League manager of the year and another as manager of the “decade’.
