Milan could be on course for a dispute with Brazil over a request that the midfiielder Kaka represents his country in the forthcoming Olympic qualifying tournament.
Brazilian coach Ricardo Gomes named a squad of 17 but has left places open for Kaka and also Sevilla’s Julio Baptista.
“Kaka has not been ruled out, the situation is not final,” said Gomes.
“I don’t normally have much patience but he and Julio Baptista are worth waiting for.”
The Brazilian Football Confederation are still locked in negotiations with the players’ clubs in the hope they will be released for the matches.
“We have to take into consideration that in 2004 we have the Olympic qualifiers, seven World Cup qualifiers, the Olympics themselves and the Copa America,” said CBF national team supervisor Americo Faria.
“Obviously, if any player is selected for all these competitions, he will be with the national team for three or four months and that is a strong argument for the club.”
