Diego Maradona is no longer in a critical condition, his doctor has confirmed.
Maradona was taken to hospital on Sunday with heart and breathing problems and there were fears that he may not recover, but his personal physician, Dr Alfredo Cahe, said that the 43-year-old appears to be on the mend.
Maradonais still breathing with the help of a respirator but Cahe believeshe will come off it within the next few days.
Cahe said Maradona would be in hospital for some time yet but he believed he would “respond positively to treatment with antibiotics”.
