Juninho has been offered a chance to revive his career with a move to Scottish champions Celtic.
Initial reports indicate that the move would be for a season-long loan, with Celtic having the option to make the deal permanent in 12 months time.
Juninho has asked for time to think over the move, as he is reluctant to leave Boro, the club that brought him to Europe from Sao Paulo in 1995.
“I acknowledge there has been contact from Celtic, and I’m flattered because they are such a great club,” said Juninho. ” It has never been in my thoughts to leave Middlesbrough.
“But while I love the club, I also know I cannot turn my back on interest from a club such as Celtic. I need time to make the right decision.”
The 31-year-old Brazilian is currently enjoying his third spell with Boro.
Celtic meanwhile, are still looking to fill the void left by Henrik Larsson’s departure, and although Juninho would not be a direct replacement for the prolific striker, his arrival would offer a boost for the supporters.
