Charlton have signed Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy for £2.5m.
Charlton manager Alan Curbishley moved to sign the 27-year-old midfielder after a proposed transfer to Tottenham collapsed.
“We’ve been tracking Danny for some time but he only became available last week,’ said Curbishley.
“Although he was publicly linked with other clubs we were always confident we would sign Danny,” Curbishley told Charlton’s official website.
“The fact he has chosen to come here over a number of other Premiership clubs is an endorsement of what we are trying to achieve at Charlton.
“I also believe the fact that Charlton have signed an England international from one of this country’s biggest clubs shows our tactics in the transfer market are paying off.
“We have remained patient and stayed focused on bringing in the type and quality of player we have always felt we needed.”
Murphy pulled out of a move to Spurs when Tottenham coach Jacques Santini refused to guarantee him a first-team place.
