Former Brazil striker Romario has agreed to stay at Vasco da Gama for another year, the club have confirmed.
Romario, who will be 40 later this month, finished as top scorer in last year’s Brazilian championship with 22 goals.
He had been tlinked with a move to Brazilian champions Corinthians, but Vasco officials said they had been confident he would stay with the club.
“All we did was make it official,” Vasco’s football vice-president Jose Luiz Moreira told reporters.
“Romario had a number of chances to play for teams in Sao Paulo when he was beginning his career, but he didn’t want to. So there’s no way he was going to leave Rio at this stage.”
