Italian playmaker Francesco Totti is concerned that his chances of making an impact at this summer’s World Cup finals, could be affected by the frequency with which he is fouled in domestic football.
The Roma skipper has won 99 free kicks so far this season – only Mauro Esposito and Luca Toni have received more fouls.
“I keep getting kicked and have to receive physiotherapy constantly,” said Totti .
“Blows are possible in football. I don’t want to complain but I’m really worried in view of the World Cup.
“With all these ankle blows I have no time for training sessions. The day after a game I have to do physiotherapy, then 48 hours after a match I start with slow training and the day after we are already slowing down to prepare for another match.”
Totti, who was banned at Euro 2004 for spitting at Denmarks Christian Poulsen, said there will be no repeat in Germany.
“I dont react anymore because I’ve finally understood that it gets me nowhere. I have grown up and feel more responsible for the team,” he said.
