Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba says that he would be proud to lift the African Nations trophy as he looks ahead to Friday’s final against Egypt.
“Quite simply, I’d be really proud to win the cup, either as a player or the captain,” said Drogba.
“A continental title means a great deal, it’s a degree of recognition that comes just below that of the World Cup.
“Simply being in the final is pure happiness.”
The Chelsea striker denies that the captaincy has not changed his style of play.
“I try to stay as I was before, to keep talking,” he insisted.
“You might notice the armband but it’s just a piece of material and you don’t need that to be able to speak your mind to the rest of the team.”
Drogba believes that Mido, who was thrown out of the Egyptian squad after rowing with coach Hassan Shehata, will have his ban overturned in time for the final.
“I think Mido will play,” he added.
“I think they are ready to fight to do everything to win this game because they are playing at home.”
