Day 12 recap
Group C is done and dusted with Germany’s 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland ensuring they top the group ahead of Poland who defeated Ukraine by the same scoreline The results mean that Michael O’Neill Northern Ireland side are guaranteed a place in the last 16 as one one the best third-placed teams.
In Group D, there was something of a shock as the holders Spain suffered their first loss at the European Championships since 2004. The 2-1 defeat to Croatia means that they will now face Italy in the next round, whereas group winners, Croatia, will meet one of the third-placed teams.
In the night’s other match, Turkey gave themselves a chance of qualifying by beating the Czech Republic 2-0 in Lens.
