Injuries deprived Poland of Maciej Rybus (shoulder) and Pawel Wszolek (broken hand). Slawomir Peszko and Mariusz Stepinski came in as replacements, with Stepinski included as a third striker.
Lukasz Szukala, who was not getting regular games at Osmanlispor in Turkey, lost out to Thiago Cionek, who got the nod thanks to regular games at Palermo in Italy.
