Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez have shared the ESM Golden Shoe award after both finished their respective seasons with 31 goals.

For Liverpool striker Suarez, it is the first time he has won the award, but Ronaldo now joins Lionel Messi as a three-time winner. It is only the second time the award has been shared – the previous occasion was in 2004-05 when Arsenal’s Thierry Henry and Villarreal’s Diego Forlan could not be separated.

Messi, Europe’s leading scorer for the last two season, finished in third place this time around, with 28 goals – one more than Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa.

Rules

Only the leading five countries – Spain, Italy, Germany, England and Portugal – in the UEFA rankings have two as their multiplier. This is to emphasise the difference in (international) performance level between clubs from those countries and those of other nations.A player cannot play first in a summer league (e.g. Norway) and then in a winter league (e.g. Spain) and combine the points totals for each season.
