Two goals apiece for Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, ensured the pair extend their lead over Robin van Persie at the top of the ESM Golden Shoe rankings.
Ronaldo has has now scored 32 goals this season, and with 12 league matches remaining he is on course to break La Liga record of 40 goals, he set last season. On current form, Messi will also eclipse that mark.
Elsewhere in the top ten, Mario Gomez scored a hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s 7-1 thrashing of Hoffenheim to move to 21 for the season, while Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney scored twice to move up to 7th in the standings. There were also goals for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
