Another game another goal for Lionel Messi, who extends his lead at the top of the ESM Golden Shoe standings to 26 points. The Argentinian scored in his 12th consecutive La Liga game to help leaders Barcelona earn a 1-1 draw at Valencia, and take his personal tally for the campaign to 34 goals.
Messi’s closest rival did find the back of the net, but unfortunately for Cristiano Ronaldo and his team, Real Madrid, it was at the wrong end as the Portuguese headed into his own net in the shock 1-0 defeat to Granada.
Elsewhere, it was a quiet weekend for many of this season’s big hitters, with the likes of Edinson Cavani, Radamel Falcao and Robin Van Persie, all drawing blanks. The biggest movement came from Jackson Martinez who surged into the top ten courtesy of a hat-trick in Porto’s 4-0 win over Guimaraes.
The only other player near the head of the standings to add to his tally for the season was the ever-reliable Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored once in PSG’s 4-0 rout of Toulouse, to move back into the top ten.
