Despite drawing a blank in Liverpool’ 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, Luis Suarez still leads the ESM Golden Shoe standings with 22 league goals.

Behind the Uruguayan sits Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid striker was on target once again during his side’s impressive 5-0 win at Real Betis. With 19 league goals during the current campaign, Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa lies third in the standings.

Elsewhere in the top ten there were goals for Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Heerenveen’s Alfred Finnbogason, Porto’s Jackson Martinez and PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Barring an unlikely goalscoring spree from any of these players, this season’s Golden Shoe looks like it will be a three-way fight between Suarez Ronaldo, and Costa.

Only the leading five countries – Spain, Italy, Germany, England and Portugal – in the UEFA rankings have two as their multiplier. This is to emphasise the difference in (international) performance level between clubs from those countries and those of other nations.A player cannot play first in a summer league (e.g. Norway) and then in a winter league (e.g. Spain) and combine the points totals for each season.
