After scoring twice in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Schalke, Cristiano Ronaldo needs just one more goal to overtake Ferenc Puskas’ haul of 242 in all competitions and become the Spanish club’s fourth-highest scorer of all time.
The Portuguese star’s double took his tally in this season’s Champions League to 13 – one shy of Lionel Messi’s record of 14 for Barcelona during the 2011-12 season.
The Portugal forward has scored 41 in 37 appearances this term.
“Ronaldo didn’t become World Player of the Year for nothing,” Schalke coach Jens Keller told a news conference. “His qualities are outstanding.”
Indeed.
