Here’s your daily round-up of the latest transfer gossip from World Soccer.

MANCHESTER CITY GIVEN MESSI BOOST

It’s fair to say that Lionel Messi’s decision to request a transfer away from Barcelona at the end of the season has been the biggest story of the year by some distance. Even though he ended up staying at the Nou Camp, speculation about his future hasn’t stopped featuring in the gossip columns since.

Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona looks on during the La Liga match between FC Barcelona and RC Deportivo La Coruna at Camp Nou stadium on October 15, 2016 in Barcelona, Spain.

According to AS, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City’s hopes of signing the 33-year-old have been given a boost by Barcelona presidential candidate Emili Rousaud saying the forward’s salary “is unsustainable” for the La Liga giants beyond the end of his contract next summer.

ARSENAL DESPERATE TO OFFLOAD OZIL

Mikel Arteta is under pressure at Arsenal due to their torrid start to the season, and it seems his life isn’t going to be made any easier by Mesut Ozil. Ozil’s name is mentioned whenever The Gunners fail to perform, with many questioning why the club are so reluctant to bring him back into the first-team picture.

Mesut Ozil of Arsenal is challenged by Youssef El Arabi of Olympiakos during the UEFA Europa League round of 32 second leg match between Arsenal FC and Olympiacos FC at Emirates Stadium on February 27, 2020 in London, United Kingdom.

However, according to Tuttomercato, the 32-year-old midfielder wants to stay at the Emirates Stadium in January, and see out the final six months of his contract. This is despite the fact that The Gunners are keen to offload him as soon as they possibly can.

TORREIRA SET FOR EARLY RETURN

One player who could be arriving at the Emirates Stadium in January is Lucas Torreira. There has been speculation that the 24-year-old midfielder’s loan at Atletico Madrid may be cut short. However, according to The Daily Mirror, his agent says this is not the case.

Atletico Madrid’s Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira (L) vies with Real Betis’ Spanish midfielder Sergio Canales during the Spanish League football match between Atletico Madrid and Real Betis at the Wanda Metropolitan stadium in Madrid on October 24, 2020.
