Werder Bremen’s Brazilian striker Ailton admits he is disappointed to miss out on playing in the Champions League when he moves to Schalke next season.
Ailton revealed earlier in the season that he would be joining Schalke next season, but his goals have taken his current club Werder Bremen to the top of the Bundesliga and a place in the Champions League.
“I have always wanted to play in the Champions League,” Ailton told the Die Welt newspaper on Tuesday.
“I would at least like to play in the UEFA Cup. That does not look like it is going to happen now and I am very sad.”
Ailton is contractually obliged to join Schalke but he admitted leaving Bremen would be a bind.
“I accept my contract at Schalke and everyone that plays and works there,” he added.
“But no-one can change the way I feel. No-one would feel any different if they were in my shoes.”
