Antonio Conte’s lawyer has said that an Italian prosecutor wants a six-month suspended prison sentence and an €8,000 (£6,409) fine for Antonio Conte over his alleged role in a match-fixing case.
Chelsea announced that Conte would be manager from next season and he is accused of “sporting fraud” by prosecutors in the city of Cremona which he denies.
According to Sky Sports, prosecutor Roberto Di Martino, made his request official on Tuesday when the new incoming Chelsea manager’s fast-track trial began. However Conte did not attend the hearing.
The case relates to the 2010-2011 season during his managerial tenure at Italian club Siena.
The match under investigation was Siena’s 1-0 victory at Albinoleffe in May 2011. Siena’s 2-2 draw at Novara, was under the scrutiny too, however this was dropped from the inquiry.
Conte’s lawyer Leonardo Cammarata told Reuters: “Antonio Conte denies any wrongdoing and any knowledge of an attempt at match-fixing.”
According to Cammarata, he said that the defence is due to make its final statement to the court on April 11 with a verdict is due in mid-May.
Conte was banned for four matches (which was reduced from 10 games) during the 2012-2013 season for failing to report the alleged match-fixing in the two games when he was coach of Siena.
A Chelsea spokesman said the club would not comment on an ongoing investigation.
