Veteran Argentine striker Gabriel Batistuta has completed his loan move from Roma to Serie A rivals Inter and pledged to help the club secure its first Scudetto since 1989.
The former Fiorentina star, who turns 34 on February 1, has joined Inter until the end of the season as cover for injured compatriot Hernan Crespo.
“Inter are a solid squad, a good group,” he said.
“I know that I can’t play in the Champions League (as he has already done so with Roma this season) so the championship is my only objective and I will give my all to win it here at Inter.”
Asked about the circumstanecs surrounding his move from Roma, Batistuta played down reports that there had been a financial dispute with the club.
“I prefer to remember the friends I have left in Rome and those who have treated me well,” he said.
“I could easily have stayed at Roma, but there were two reasons that pushed me to come to Inter.
“I was no longer accepted by the fans and secondly there was the possibility of winning the Scudetto with Inter.
“They are a serious club and they have shown they can fight forthe title. My affection for (Inter president Massimo) Moratti was also a major factor. I’ve been close to an Inter move many times, but now I’m here I will prove it’s not late.”
“Perhaps I’m old but I still have the enthusiasm of a boy and the decision to move here shows how much desire I have,” he said.
“Since Moratti called me, I haven’t thought about anything else except focusing on Inter.”
