It appears that Bayern star, Gotze, has quashed rumours regarding his future in Bavaria – for now that is.
Speaking at a news conference in Doha on Saturday morning, he said:
“I can rule out a move to Liverpool this winter. I don’t know where the rumours about Klopp and me are coming from. I have not heard anything. You should ask Klopp if he wants me at Liverpool. If he wants me, he should approach me.
“I have six nice months ahead of me. It is always annoying when you cannot play and cannot help the team. It is only normal that you think about things like that. But you have to look at the positives and build on those.”
Gotze moved to Bayern from Dortmund in surprising circumstances after Bayern activated a buy-out clause in Gotze’s contract. However the World Cup final goal scorer has failed to impose himself as he did so successfully under the tutelage of Klopp during his time at Westfalenstadion.
A reunion with Klopp could give Liverpool a genuine marquee name signing and Gotze fits the bill. He possesses elegance and skill on the ball, and would provide Liverpool genuine quality in their ranks.
Whether he moves Bayern however depends on new incoming coach Carlo Ancelloti. Gotze has said that new coach’s opinion will be a key factor in deciding his future.
“Everything is still open,” he said. “We will see how things go at the end of the season. But of course, it is important how the new coach feels about me. The coach’s plans are decisive in the end.
“So we will just have to wait and see how things pan out. I have not really given my future much thought recently because of my injury, but everything is open as things stand.
“It all depends on the plans of the club and the new coach.”
