David Beckham expects to be fit to captain England in their friendly international against Uruguay at Anfield on Wednesday.
Beckham was substituted in Real Madrid’s weekend loss to Mallorca after picking up a back injury.
But Beckham said: “My back should be fine. It was just a little bit of pain and being cautious I just came off.”
There are also concerns about the fitness of midfielder Steven Gerrard’s after the Liverpool midfielder required treatment on his foot during the win over Manchester City.
It prompted Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez to ask Sven-Goran Eriksson to leave Gerrard out of Wednesday’s team.
“Gerrard has played a lot of games already and because we have lost Mohamed Sissoko I will need him even more,” Benitez was quoted in The People newspaper.
“Players need a rest. I don’t want to give Eriksson advice. He is experienced but he must think about it.”
