Newcastle have refused to confirm reports that Lee Bowyer has agreed a move to St James’ Park.
The former Leeds midfielder is available for nothing after completing a four-month deal at West Ham. following his release by Leeds.
A spokesperson for the club told this website: “Our policy remains that we will only comment if and when we sign a player, but until such time we have nothing more to say.”
A spokesman for Bowyer’s agents would only state that Bowyer: “is in talks with a couple of clubs”.
Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson is a known to be an admirer of the controversial midfielder.
The biggest obstacle to a move is likely to be the ankle injury which dogged Bowyer’s stay at West Ham.
