Jose Mourinho is poised to complete his second swoop from former club Porto by clinching the £18million transfer of Deco.
The Portuguese midfielder, currently training with the national team ahead of EURO 2004, has expressed his desire to become the ‘best player in the world’.
“I want a club who offer me the conditions to be the best player in the world,” said the Brazilian-born playmaker.
“That’s the biggest motivation of my career. Individually I’d like success.”
According to reports in Portugal, Deco’s agent Jorge Mendes met Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon last night to iron out details on a move that would make Deco Chelsea’s second midfield arrival of the summer, following the transfer of Arjen Robben.
“I want new challenges. I’d never leave Porto to join Atletico Madrid, for example,” he added.
