Luis Figo has been told that his contract with Real Madrid will not be renewed at the end of the forthcoming season.
The first player to be signed by President Perez as part of his ‘Galactico’ policy, has been told that the club has “no intention” of renewing his contract.
Figo will weigh up his options in December, but there will be no shortage of offers for a player, who at 32, will still be in the prime of his career.
The decision to inform Figo that he will not be offered a new deal, could be regarded as a PR nightmare on the part of Real, but the Portuguese international has confirmed that he will continue to do his very best for the club.
With regards to a new club, Figo admitted in a press conference, that: “I haven’t thought much about it, but in relation to last year, things have changed a lot.”
Quizzed about Madrid’s decision, Figo replied: “That’s the reality of today. This is the information that I have and I can’t say anything else.
“As a professional I intend to do my very best for the club… We didn’t win anything last season, and the intention is to win some title.”
