Thomas Gravesen has admitted that he is disillusioned with the unsporting behaviour of players in Spain, fuelling speculation that he may be on his way back to England.
“Players in Spain, even some of my team-mates, tend to throw themselves on the floor when they lose the ball,” said Gravesen.
“And it works because nine out of 10 times the referee gives a foul. It is nothing like what happens in England, where you are punished if you cheat and dive.
“This way of playing the game is for cowards and I will never get used to it. The day that I start doing it will be the day I retire.”
The Danish midfielder, who has struggled to secure a first-team place at Real Madrid this season, has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
With United’s need to bolster their midfield accentuated by the loss of Paul Scholes for the rest of the season, Sir Alex Ferguson may be tempted to firm up his interest in Gravesen.
