Lothar Matthaus claims that Pep Guardiola will not be missed by the Bayern Munoich players when he departs at the end of the season.
Guardiola confirmed on Monday he will move to the Premier League at the end of the season, amid speculation that he will replace Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City.
Matthaus also suspects Guardiola will faces a difficult few months combining the dual demands of managing Bayern whilst simultaneously planning for his new club in England.
The former Bayern skipper told SportBild: “Guardiola can say what he wants: The squad planning for Manchester City is too important. He cannot possibly be 100 percent focussed on the job in hand at Bayern on his mind. That’s a dangerous situation to be in.
“Guardiola will have five difficult moths in Munich.”
Highlighting Guardiola’s relationship with his players, Matthaus claims the affection shown was “all a big show”.
“I don’t want to beat around the bush,” he added. “There never was true love between Guardiola and the Bayern players. His hugs? It was all a big show.”
Pep Guardiola and Mario Goetze share a hug, but the player will benefit from a different coach, argues Matthaus.
Mario Gotze is one player who has not flourished under Guardiola and Matthaus claimed the German World Cup winning hero will benefit from working with a coach who understands his particular needs.
He added: “Gotze needs a coach, who not only hugs him sometimes, but who is serious about this as well like Jürgen Klopp.
“Gotze’s qualities are undisputed, but apparently he needs to have the team built around him if he is to show them. This is similar with Franck Ribery, who often quarrels with Guardiola as well.”
