Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld is to leave the club at the end of the season on Saturday, the club’s executive manager Uli Hoeness has revealed.
The announcement follows weeks of speculation during what has been a disappointing season by Bayern’s standards.
“I told Ottmar and he accepted it,” Hoeness told y the Abendzeitung newspaper.
The 3-1 home defeat to Bremen on May 8 tappears to have beenn the final straw for Hitzfeld.
“That game changed the world. It was clear to me then that we couldn’t take another year like that,” Hoeness said.
“After that game, the scales fell from my eyes. It’s not working.”
Hitzfeld, 55, has been at Bayernfor six years and during that time he led the club to four Bundesliga titles as well as a Champions League triumph in 2001.
Felix Magath, currently in charge at Stuttgart, is the man tipped to replace Hitzfeld at Bayern.
