Patrick Kluivert has started his spell at Newcastle in optimistic mood, pledging to help win the Magpies their first trophy in 35 years.
The Dutch international has signed a three-year contract with the Tyneside club and believes he’ll have little problem adapting to the Premiership.
“I am very confident in myself, I am 100% fit and hungry to create and score goals, many goals. My main objective is to win titles for Newcastle and the team has a good mix of experience and talent,” the 28-year-old told the BBC.
Kluivert also singled out Alan Shearer as a player he was eager to team up with, even though the Dutchman’s arrival has cast doubt on whether the former England man will be making many appearances next season.
“He’s a killer, he’s the king of the box, and I think with me beside him, maybe he’ll score more than he already has,” said Kluivert.
Newcastle manager Bobby Robson is hoping his new signing will live up to his words.
“It’s a good move for him at a good time,” said Robson
“He had six years at Barcelona and it’s time to move on and look forward, not look back. View this as a big adventure and I think the boy will do absolutely great for us.”
