Newcastle have agreed a fee with Tottenham for defender Stephen Carr.
Sir Bobby Robson has been on the look out for a new right back throughout the summer and will be relieved to secure the signing of Carr before Saturday’s Premiership opener.
The Republic of Ireland right-back is expected to take a medical in the next 48 hours before completing a move thought to be worth around £2m.
Carr will join James Milner, Patrick Kluivert and Nicky Butt as new additions to Newcastle’s squad during the close-season.
