The international careers of Diego Simeone and Gabriel Batistuta look to be over after they were omitted from Argentina’s squad to face Holland in a friendly next month.
Batistuta announced his retirement from international football last year but it’s is understood that he had reconsidered the decision and was available for selection. Simeone, Argentina’s most-capped player has continued to be available for sellection.
Coach Marcello Bielsa has included three uncapped players in his squad – Deportivo Coruna defender Lionel Scaloni, Atletico Madrid defender Fabricio Coloccini and Nantes midfielder Mauro Cetto.
Striker Hernan Crespo and midfielder Matias Almeyda are unavailable due to injury.
