Former England U21 manager Peter Taylor is unsure whether Jose Mourinho’s style at Man Utd would be a good fit.
Man Utd have a tradition of playing with pace and dynamism, and Louis van Gaal has been criticised for playing a negative style of football.
Mourinho has a reputation for playing containing football, but he has been able to adapt and play expansive football – particularly with Real Madrid when they won the La Liga title in 2012.
Taylor feels that he would have to adapt and play in a similar fashion to appease Man Utd fans.
“He’s one of the best managers in the world. But whether his style matches Manchester United’s style, I am not 100 per cent sure,” Taylor said.
“He might have to change on that, I am sure the people if they interview him they will tell him how they want him to do it.
“When he was in his second season at Real Madrid, some of the attacking play they produced then was absolutely outstanding. That’s the type of play that Man United are expecting.”
Taylor also feels that Mourinho has learnt from his past mistakes at Chelsea. He and the players had a falling out over the treatment of former club doctor Eva Carneiro and as a result performances started to dip.
“I think even the Special One would learn from his last club and last situation,” Taylor told Sky Sports News.
“It’s obvious he upset a few too many star players there. I think a lot of the Chelsea players were to blame.
“In the end the Chelsea management decided to change the management and not all the players. The players are very powerful these days and you have to keep in with them.”
