A 62-year-old man has been arrested in a Japanese hotel where the Russian World Cup squad had booked rooms.
The man, a leader of a right-wing organisation, was protesting against Russia’s occupation of the Japanese-claimed southern Kuril islands since the end of World War Two and was detained on for trespassing and intimidation.
This is the second security incident to concern the Russian team this month. On 6 May unknown individuals sprayed their training pitch with insecticide.
