• Have Chelsea hit rock bottom?
Aided by some typically provocative antics by striker Diego Costa which resulted in Arsenal defender Gabriel being sent off, Chelsea were back to winning ways on Saturday. In truth, even when both teams were at their full complement, Chelsea, demonstating a sharpness that has been lacking thus far this season, always looked the more likely. Two goals in the second half against an Arsenal side reduced to nine men was fair reward for their superiority.

IN FRANCE …
• Can Rennes go top of the table?
One point behind Paris Saint-Germain after their best start to a season since the 1950-51 campaign, Rennes had the chance to go top had they won at home to Lille on Friday night. Unfortunately, Philippe Montanier’s side were unable to overcome stubborn opponents and had to settle for a 1-1 draw to leave them in second spot, a point behind PSG who could only draw at Reims.

IN GERMANY…
• Who’ll take Schalke’s penalties?
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar missed his fourth successive spot-kick for Schalke in last weekend’s game against Mainz. Against Stuttgart there were no penalty kicks so we will have to wait and see whetehr the Dutch striker has retained his role.

IN ITALY …
• Can Chievo maintain their unbeaten run?
First played second in Serie A at the weekend when leaders Inter travelled to this season’s surprise package, Chievo, who were unbeaten in their opening three matches. The visitors edged a close game courtesy of a first half strike from Mauro Icardi to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

IN PORTUGAL …
• Will the O Clássico be decisive?
Almost 50,000 packed into the Estádio Do Dragão for the first O Clássico of the season between league leaders Porto and reigning champions Benfica. In a tempestuous match which featured eight bookings, André André finished off a flowing move to earn the hosts the win and extend their lead over their title rivals to what could already be a decisive four points.

IN SPAIN …
• Will Cristiano Ronaldo break another record?
Cristiano Ronaldo needed a hat-trick to overtake Raul’s club record of 323 goals, but he has only scored in one of four La Liga games this season (admittedly he scored five in that one match) and failed to hit the target again on Saturday. Karim Benzema headed in Real Madrid’s winning goal against Granada as the Portugal striker was left waiting to break the club’s goalscoring record.
