Ireland coach Mick McCarthy believes his team deserved at least a draw in their dramatic Group E match with Germany.
“What’s the point of coming here and not taking a chance? We battered them,” he said after watching Robbie Keane score a last minute equaliser to earn IIreland a point.
“I said to the boys at half-time, ‘Don’t come off the pitch having beaten them at football but lost the game. We’ve got to get something out of it.
“And we took a chance: what’s the point of coming here and not taking a chance? I’m delighted for Quinny and Robbie took his goal well.
“It gives ourselves a chance (of reaching the second round), we’re in with a shout. The lads have given the fans something to shout about.”
