Paris Saint-Germain’s star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been handed a €700,000 monthly pay-rise as a part of a performance-based pay rise stipulated in his contract.
Already by a distance the the highest-paid footballer in France, the Swede, who joined the club in 2012 from Milan, now receives €1.5 million a month before tax. Since his arrival in Paris. Ibrahimovic has scored 127 goals in 156 games.
The payouts don’t stop there: Ibrahimovic can collect three big bonus payments for winning the the Ligue 1 title, the Champions league and ending the domestic season in France with the top combined total of goals scored and goal assists.
With Paris Saint-Germain currently 21 points clear of second-placed Monaco in the league, the first of those targets looks to be already in the bag. PSG face Chelsea in the last 16 of the Champions League next month – a repeat of last seasons’ last 16 tie, which the French team won on away goals.
Le Parisien, which broke the story of Ibrahimovic’s pay rise, added, said there was no word on whether the 34-year-old would stay in Paris after his current contract expires at the end of the season.
He is on record as saying he has no intention of leaving, claiming he has “a beautiful relationship with PSG”.
And with a pay packet to match, it seems unlikely he will be tempted away from the French capital any time soon.
